December 22 - AOL 9.6 beta 1 has landed!

We're excited to bring you Beta 1 before the holidays! Not only does this release build upon the already popular AOL 9.5 software by adding a few new browsing features, we've also continued the mission to improve performance by, among other things, rebuilding the codebase entirely.

Please remember this is the first beta following some signifcant code changes. We hope to hear from you regarding any issues or experiences you encounter as this is important to our mission of excellence. As always, please make sure to check the known issues before sending a report.

Users who have installed beta 0 will automatically receive Beta 1 via Automatic Updates, however we welcome you to download it directly and get started sooner.

We hope you enjoy testing this release!

New or Changed in Beta 1

New:

  • Added "Search Similar" to the browser chrome. This feature will allow you to find other pages that are related to the page you are on.
  • Added "Text size" to the browser chrome. This feature will allow you to increase the text on the web pages being viewed.
  • Added "Zoom" to the browser chrome. This will allow you to zoom a page being viewed.

Changed:

  • Moved the client build to Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 (update codebase)
  • Improved performance.
  • Updated branding to remove former art, though branding remains incomplete

Remember, this is a 1st beta where there were a few significant changes. Features may be rough and you may encounter some unusual experiences. Please make sure to report anything you encounter that is out of the ordinary.

Known Issues

For awareness, please make sure to review the more comprehensive list of known issues before continuing. We did, however, want to highlight the following errors that you could encounter on installation or launch.

In our testing, these errors do not inhibit the installation or use of the Beta 1 software. The two errors we are aware of are:

Installation: "AOL Connectivity WanAtw Installer has stopped working."
Simply 'Close the Program' to continue.

Launch: "The program can't start because WMVCore.DLL is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."
Simply click 'OK' to continue.

Again, these errors should not inhibit your experience and we ask that you continue with testing this software.
